About

Alan Ashbaugh, Psy.D

Postdoctoral Fellow

Your pain, your desires, your confusion—Ram Dass called this stuff “grist for the mill.” Bring it all. I will receive what you share with care and curiosity. Together we will work toward new ways of understanding what you’re going through, opening possibilities for increased freedom and ease.

I’m Alan, a psychotherapist focused on helping adults, teens, and children navigate anxiety, depression, substance use, ADHD, severe mood fluctuations, conflict in relationships, career changes, and life transitions including becoming an adult, a partner, and a parent. I also support those seeking psychedelic integration and men who want to change how they relate to their emotions. I offer psychotherapy and ketamine-assisted therapy (KAP) services.

My style has been described as active, attentive, and warm. Therapy works best when it feels safe to share whatever comes to mind, so I build trust by listening without judgment and collaborating openly. I’ll tailor each session to your needs and goals, beginning with what matters most to you in the present moment. I draw from evidence-based and relational approaches including psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and parts work such as Internal Family Systems (IFS).

My background outside of therapy also shapes how I work. Time spent in the tech world gives me perspective on burnout and the search for meaning; training in Buddhist meditation and psychedelic-assisted therapy helps me trust each person’s inner wisdom; and backcountry skiing reminds me of the sense of flow that can come from moving with external forces rather than against them.

I welcome people of all gender, cultural, and racial identities, and I strive to understand each person on their own terms. Contact me by requesting an appointment, and I will reach out to schedule a free, no-obligation, 15-minute consultation. I’d love to see how I can help.
